Jean S. Alupay, Ph.D
Welcome!
I am a highly motivated scientist interested in exploring the biodiversity in our world's oceans by integrating the fields of animal behavior, marine biology, biomechanics, and mathematics. My expertise is in the biology of octopus, with eight years of experience investigating them in the field and in the lab. In those eight years, I've worked specifically in tropical coral reefs in Japan and the Philippines, diving and snorkeling in remote areas with the help of local collaborators like the University of Ryukyus and the University of San Carlos, Cebu. My goal is to continue discovering different biological principles from regeneration to animal movement using versatile marine invertebrates, like the octopus, as model systems. I am passionate about public outreach and education and a firm believer that anyone can be a scientist and be part of the endeavor to discover more about our world. I am a certified diver, avid nature hiker, novice digital photographer, and fitness buff always ready to explore a new environment. |
